Everyone dreams of a perfectly sun-filled wedding day, but let’s face it, with planning that usually starts at least a year in advance it is sometimes difficult to "predict" the weather for the big day. {Ally & Urs: A Sweet Engagement Shoot}

From the very first time we sat down with the lovely Ally and Urs to talk wedding, we absolutely fell in love with them. Their energy, enthusiasm and genuine personalities are just some of the qualities that make this sweet couple a sheer joy to work with. They recently had a chance to have a romantic and oh-SO fashionable engagement shoot with the awesome Shawn Van Daele from Renaissance Studios, who captured the beauty this fun couple radiates. I don't know about you, but I really think they need to be in a magazine!! Here are some fabulous images from the day. Enjoy and happy Wednesday!

{The Royal Wedding}

So it came and went in what seems like the blink of an eye. All the buzz and excitement leading up to the Royal Wedding kept millions of people awake and glued to their television sets waiting for that magical moment when Katherine Middleton finally stepped out and revealed her beautiful (and highly guarded) wedding gown designed by Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton.

The classic V-neck gown had long-sleeved lace overlay, and according to People magazine the skirt was made to resemble an opening flower, padded at the hips and flowing out to the floor, made of ivory and white satin gazar. Sister Pippa, who also wore a McQueen creation, carried the two meter, 70 centimetre train as Kate made her way into Westminster Abbey.

The blushing bride let her signature brunette locks fall on her lace covered shoulders and topped with an ivory silk tulle veil and held in place by a 1936 Cartier “Halo” tiara, lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. Reports say that she decided to do her own make up for the day, looking absolutely fresh faced and classic.

After the ceremony, the happy couple embarked on the procession to Buckingham Palace in the same State Landau carriage that transported Prince Charles and Princes Diana on their wedding day.

After kissing on the balcony and heading off to their reception, the newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were spotted looking absolutely perfect and ready for their wedding reception, which was said to have three hundred guests and where the happy couple was able to privately enjoy with their closest friends and family.

Congratulations Will and Kate! From the world over, wishes of happiness and a lifetime of love!!

{Hello again}

Sometimes it’s hard to figure out where the time goes. I have been telling myself for weeks and weeks that I absolutely must write a blog post...and I just couldn't find the time. So often life and responsibilities fill our days and it’s difficult to set time aside to do things that we love and that feed our creativity and fill our hearts with light...for me, blogging is one of those things. The last few months have been a flurry of activity ranging from career moves, lessons on friendship and respect, being reminded of the importance of family, welcoming a beautiful new little nephew to the world and watching my sister become a beautiful example of motherhood. I feel very blessed to be a part of this world with all its funny twists and turns, and every so often, no matter how crazy life gets, I always come back to the need to express my creativity and let myself dream. So, here I am, once again, carving out that time and space to share the beauty that I encounter each day. I hope to be here often, and I hope you will stop by and find something to inspire you as you go about on this beautiful journey.

{A Chic Halloween Wedding}

When I first thought about the idea of a Halloween-themed wedding, I had visions of orange and black that left me a bit disenchanted. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought...hmmm, Halloween need not be orange! Think of a glamorous and grown up colour palette that includes black and white, sparkly silver, deep purples and mossy greens and sprinkle a few tricks and treats that will truly wow your guests such as dark signature drinks, a stunning cake and a creative candy display! Although not for everyone, a Halloween soiree is a perfect opportunity to have some fun and create a magical evening everyone will remember!

There is something so enchanting about the fall. As the leaves change colours, our souls are refreshed and inspired and we can almost taste the excitement of new beginnings. What better time to celebrate love than when nature surrounds us with a beautiful and magical carnival of changing colours! Be inspired to create a cosy atmosphere in a cabin surrounded by trees, serve apple cider as your signature drink and decorate using texture and simple rustic elements such as leaves, fruit, deep-hued blooms and use the beautiful glow of candles to create a wedding full of sweet memories. {Lovely Ladies: Maid-of-Honour & Bridesmaids}

When choosing the lovely ladies who will stand beside you during one of the biggest moments of your life, it is important to remember that you want to be sharing your day with those near and dear who mean the world to you and who will support you as you merrily go about the planning process. Both your Maid-of-Honour and Bridesmaids will have some very important jobs to do, so you want to ensure that you are choosing friends that you can rely on and trust. Here is a little job description for each role:
The Maid-of-Honour position usually goes to a sister or best-est and most loyal friend who will ensure that all pre-wedding events, such as the shower and bachelorette party, run smoothly and also keep everyone informed about important dates and times (ie. for fittings, meetings, etc.). Speeches will also be on the MOH’s to-do list as she will likely be expected to make a lovely toast at both the rehearsal dinner and the reception.
The Bridesmaids positions go to fun and true friends who will hopefully be in your life long after the party wraps up! Sisters (fiancé’s sisters), cousins and long-time friends are all candidates for this job. Bridesmaids will be expected to attend pre-wedding events, help the MOH out when needed, and attend important meetings (ie. tastings, site vistis, etc.).

And remember, as the lovely bride that you are, be kind to your Maid-of-Honor and Bridesmaids. It IS your day, but try to be flexible whenever possible (in terms of scheduling and especially when it comes to choosing a dress they will want to wear), and most importantly be VERY grateful and appreciative of all the time and hard work that they are putting into helping you plan your day.

Oh how I love a beautiful accessory!! I find that often times all we need to make our everyday wardrobe seem happy and unexpected is a small touch of something beautifully charming...a little pop of colour in a cosy sweater, a touch of luxury in a sparkly detail, or a divinely comfortable pair of flats. The very same rule applies to your wedding day...choose a little something special that will enhance your look without being too obvious or distracting and whatever piece you choose to accent your look on your wedding day, always ensure that it somehow reflects your personality. You must love it and feel comfortable wearing it and remember that confidence is the best accessory. {So Lovely: Renaissance Studios Photoshoot}

One of our favourite things here at DEva Weddings, aside from helping couples plan a beautiful day, is that we get to meet some great people! During the time that Dave and I (aka DEva) have been in the wedding industry, we have had the pleasure of getting to know some extremely talented and amazing professionals who have a passion for weddings and all the beauty and romance that come along with such an important day. A few months ago we came across the unbelievably beautiful photography from Renaissance Studios and immediately fell in love with their “modern-vintage” style and whimsically romantic creativity. A few weeks ago, Dave and I had the amazing pleasure of doing a super fun photo shoot with them and we had a blast! I have ALWAYS been a big fan of intricate pieces of jewellery that make beautiful statements when worn. What better time than your wedding day to find that perfect piece to complete your look. Be it pearls, stones or crystal beads, large necklaces will add a pop of colour and fun to your dress (and your neckline), enhancing your beauty even more. When wearing a large statement piece however, be careful not to overdo it (large earrings and over the top hairstyles not required!), keep it simple and beautiful by letting the focus be on that one piece...and you of course. Right now I’m loving the “little white dress”, it’s light, fun, carefree and lets your personality shine right through. While many brides dream about “the one” (dress) for years, maybe even before they even meet “the one” (love), others have no idea what they like until they see it. So when shopping for your wedding dress, keep an open mind...who knows, you might fall in love with something totally different from what you had originally envisioned. I am truly enjoying this blogging thing. It’s so fun and fulfilling to write about weddings and hopefully provide useful tips and ideas to those seeking inspiration for their big day...or any day, really. I think that one of my favourite wedding trends of the last little while is that of signature drinks. Slowing sipping and enjoying a well crafted, beautifully creative cocktail can definitely be a luxurious experience. The beauty of having a signature drink on your wedding day is that it can be as simple or as intricate as you want it to be. While there are some couples who work closely with mixologists to create something completely custom for their special day, others choose something they already love and give it a fun and quirky name that means something to them. Whatever route you choose to take, the idea is to have a signature drink that satisfies both of your tastes and to give it a name that will make you and your guests smile. Create something light and refreshing for spring and summer weddings, and go for fuller flavours and spirits for fall and winter weddings. Remember to be considerate to those guests who do not drink, and offer an equally beautiful and delicious non-alcoholic beverage for them to enjoy. Looking for a great and stylish way to add an element of surprise to your wedding reception? Try one my favourite growing trends: lounges! Setting up a separate lounge area, either for cocktail hour or drinks and dancing after dinner, will keep your guests interested and comfortable, and it will add that WOW factor. Lounges are also great if you are having a cocktail-style reception, they provide a wonderful backdrop to a more laid back party and casual-style bite-size foods and hors d’eouvres (which can also be easier on the budget). This type of set up will make the experience more interactive for your guests, as they will have the opportunity to move around and easily mingle with other guests. There are many great rental companies out there that will work with you to accomplish the perfect look to accompany your reception and give you exactly what you are looking for. Fabrics, pillows, candles, etc. are all great ways to add lots of visual interest to the space and really personalize it, and remember, whether you are setting up your lounge indoors or outdoors, arrange the furniture in a way that will allow guests to easily move from one area to another and ensure the flow of conversation. Although weddings are usually very much about the bride and her dress, I think it’s just as important to have your guy looking dashing and stylish on the big day. There are small, but beautiful ways in which grooms can add loads of flare to their look, starting with the most basic one, the boutonniere. Why not use this (typically) floral decoration to add a nice burst of colour to his suit, or get creative and forget flowers, anything from small fruit to peacock feathers will add that special something that will make his suit look amazing! And remember, boutonnieres need not be subtle or traditional, check out these bright, colourful and creative boutonniere ideas to make your guy stand out!

{Wedding Inspiration from the Movies: Alice in Wonderland}

Perhaps I am a little late with this post since the movie “Alice in Wonderland” (3D) came out some time ago, but I don’t think it’s ever too late to share beauty. This version of the much-loved classic was visually stunning and inspiring and it made me think of lovely and charming ways to bring a little bit of “Alice” into a sweet and pretty wedding day theme. Luscious colours, delicious treats, sweet-smelling flowers and touches of blue are just some of the ways in which you can incorporate the magic of wonderland into your special day! While flipping through one of my favourite wedding magazines, Wedding Style Guide (from Australia), I discovered the name Johanna Johnson, an absolute dream of a designer with a brand new collection called “Zepphora”. Inspired by the glitz, glamour and romance of the 1920s, this romantic collection is pretty, sweet and really brings to mind the classy, sophisticated and OH-SO feminine flapper look, while the sparkly accessories display strong art deco elements. Favour Idea: Specialty Wedding Cookies & Macaroons

Who doesn’t LOVE cookies? I think it is safe to say that 99.9% of the world’s population absolutely adores this delicious little treat, so why not incorporate it into your wedding day?! I’m not talking about your basic chocolate chip cookie either (as tasty as those are too), I’m talking about beautifully designed edible pieces of art. There are many incredible pastry shops and cake makers out there who will create specialty cookies to fit your taste and wedding theme. Take a look at these gorgeous and sweet cookie creations and get inspired! I bet this will be a treat your guests will be more than happy to take home...and maybe dunk in some milk!

P.S. Another sweet trend is the macaroon. These Parisian little treats are made from finely ground almonds, sugar and egg whites, and come in a wide variety of happy colours...absolutely divine!!

There is not doubt that it has been one cold winter!! Just yesterday as I was brainstorming for some sweet blog ideas there was a gorgeous snowfall going on outside my window. Now, although I absolutely enjoy beautiful, sparkling, powdery snow, I also LOVE spring and the promise of new beginnings. So, while enjoying a pretty snowy afternoon and sipping a café au lait, I started daydreaming of romantic, soft, peachy-blush colored frothy confections and got to work on finding some super pretty images that will warm your heart until the first few rays of a lovely spring arrive. What can HE do?

So for today’s blog I decided to enlist the help of my lovely business partner (and charming boyfriend) Dave West. While chatting about different blog ideas, we decided that he should write one about aspects of the wedding preparations a “dude” would actually enjoy partaking in…and here is what he came up with. Enjoy!

“I’m not picky about my wedding day. I mean who cares what colour the napkins are?”
Sound familiar ladies? If you answered “yes”, you probably did so while simultaneously shooting a glare at the back of your fiancé’s head that could cut glass. It’s no secret that the “typical” male opinion on the big day has always been perceived as “as long as there’s booze and it’s a good party, I don’t care about the rest”….BUT you’d be surprised at how particular Popeye becomes once he’s presented with options.
Alright, so your wedding day is fast approaching, you’ve booked the venue, picked out your centre-pieces, and decided on the arrangement for your bouquets. Now you still have to book your DJ, your transportation, choose the colours for your place settings, chair covers and organize your guest list by table. You raise your head above the surface of the not-so-imaginary ocean you feel like you’re drowning in just long enough to ask for help, and suddenly realize that you’re sitting at the table alone. “Where the heck IS he?” Chances are he’s either TRYING to be supportive while missing the edge of the table by mere inches every time he nods off, OR he’s in the other room enjoying his Sunday afternoon while you tirelessly compare colour samples. “What a luxury!” you think to yourself. Well you’re not alone. HOWEVER, you might just be a few strategies away from acquiring his assistance and not even know it. Believe it or not, sometimes the way things are PRESENTED to us can make all the difference in how enthusiastic we are about them.

The important thing to remember is that there are certain aspects of life that can barely keep our attention long enough for us to ever fully decide if we like them or not, for example: candles, throw pillows, pretty toothbrush holders…and in my opinion most movies starring Hugh Grant. In wedding talk, these things usually translate into place settings, flower arrangements, chair covers and centerpieces. At the same time, there are things that grip us by our very CORE, such as good tunes, food and drinks, cars, and of course mixed martial arts. Once again, in wedding talk, these things can translate into the DJ/music, catering, a signature drink, transportation and entertainment.

Try telling your fiancé that you’re hand picking the music and the entrees on your own so he need not worry and I guarantee his interest will be peaked. The trick is keeping in mind the things he enjoys and using them to persuade him to help out and NEVER underestimate the power of a simplified task list. Have him check out the DJ/music, the photographer’s website/portfolio, ask him to help you select the meal and dessert and design a signature drink and have him check out various options for transportation. These can be really difficult aspects to decide on, and while he may run for the hills when you ask him if he likes taupe or magenta napkins, your dude might develop more of an opinion if you tell him that once he gives you a little feedback, you can then move on to deciding what to eat!

In conclusion: Be kind ladies, and remember that we LOVE YOU. More and more with each and EVERY passing second, and every time the birds chirp, our hearts grow fonder. So don’t let our lack of enthusiasm discourage you. We just need a little kick in the butt every once and a while.

Choosing Your Dream Dress!!

Choosing your dress is one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process. You have dreamed about your perfect dress and now it’s time to get to work in order to find this dream creation!! Below are some helpful tips to keep in mind when it comes time to choosing your gorgeous gown.

A wedding dress will feel wonderful on as long as you choose the right silhouette for your body-type. If you are tall and thin choose a mermaid style or a style that is fitted at the top and flares out at the bottom to accentuate your long, lean shape.

If you’re petite, go for a simple and elongating gown, keep any intricate details on the top and keep the bottom simple. A beatiful satin sash (in white or a soft pastel colour) will accentuate your waistline.

Full-figured women should opt for a gown that is structured through the midsection and flares out at the bottom giving you an elongating and slimming silhouette.

Pear-shaped figures will benefit from choosing a fitted top with an a-line skirt that flares out from the midsection and accentuates your waistline.

If you’re having a destination wedding, have fun with your dress!! Choose light fabrics that travel well and think outside the box…how about instead of choosing a typical wedding gown you opt for a gorgeous short, cocktail dress in a beautiful and sparkling champagne colour!

Before heading out to shop for your perfect dress, have a clear picture of what you’re looking for. DEva Weddings goes to Beaches Turks & Caicos!!

DEva Weddings recently had the great pleasure of attending the 5th Annual Wedding Professionals Conference, which this year happened to take place in the BEAUTIFUL Beaches Resort in Turks & Caicos!!

We had an eventful stay at this amazing resort! The Wedding Planners Institute of Canada (WPIC) rounded up some extremely talented and creative personalities from the wedding industry, including: Ciara Daykin (Rockstar Wedding Planner) & Simon Daykin from Firefly Occasions Inc., an award winning dynamic duo whose energy and enthusiasm for everything weddings was contagious and inspiring. Andy Ebon, marketing and communications expert, who spoke to us about the importance of social networking for communicating with our tech savvy brides and grooms. Joanne Brown from Celebrations Ltd., one of the largest event design companies in the Caribbean spoke to us about the hottest trend: Destination Weddings, offered us some of her top tips and shared some of her expertise in planning Caribbean-style weddings!
From the WPIC, Danielle Andrews Sunkel (President) and Tracey Manailescu (Vice President) discussed the Destination Wedding Industry, and were followed by keynote speaker Sasha Souza, one of Modern Bride Magazine “Top 25 Trendsetters!” whose book “Signature Sasha: Magnificent Weddings by Design” is scheduled to be out in January 2010.
We thank the WPIC for putting together such an informative and engaging conference and we look forward to attending the conference in 2010! We had an amazing time and feel so grateful to have been part of this experience. We soaked up a ton of knowledge (and sunshine!), which we plan to put to work in order to serve our wonderful clients. Here are some pictures we want to share, enjoy!

Thoughtful Favors!

Wedding favors are a way for guests to take a little piece of your celebration home and remember your day long after the party is over. Whether you want to give your guests an edible treat or a small token they can display is up to you, the important thing is that you choose something you feel will represent you and tie in with the theme of your day.

Here are some of our favorite ideas:
Candy and chocolate are always a big hit, let your guests assemble their own little take home packages and make the deal even sweeter. Display them in beautiful platters as a candy buffet and wow your guests. An equally delish idea is a cookie buffet, which can consist of homemade (a good old fashioned recipe) or store bought (from your favorite bakery) cookies displayed in beautiful jars. Offer charming little paper bags with your monogram printed on them, or go for gold with classy shimmery boxes for your guests to assemble according to their taste.

If you are going for an eco-friendly favor, potted herbs, violets or orchids are lovely and thoughtful gifts your guests will be delighted to take home! Organic honey or maple syrup in beautiful jars is also a sweet and memorable option.

If you are looking for favors to do double duty, have them serve as seating cards by simply attaching a pretty label or flag with your guest’s name on it. It is a nice and cost effective way to welcome your guests and guide them to their table. You can also use them to create a beautiful centerpiece by grouping them together on your tables and having your guests take them at the end of the evening.

Remember to display your favors in a way that is inspired by (and ties in) all the elements of the day. A simple way to do this is by matching the packaging of your favors to your colour scheme.

If you are looking for a way to make a great style statement at your wedding reception, look no further than your centerpieces. Be sure to infuse your centerpieces with your creativity and personality and the result will be gorgeous and memorable. When it comes to centerpieces, the possibilities are endless, there are trends and styles to suit every taste and budget. If you are having a charming, vintage wedding, why not collect a variety of vintage vases and use beautiful wildflowers on your tables. To add a touch of class and elegance to a more formal wedding, choose a beautiful cluster of clear vases with blooms in a monochromatic shade. If you are going for a modern vibe, a single bold colour will do the trick while deep, rich, jewel tones will give your tables a luxurious and warm feel. For those DIY brides out there, clear glass cubes are easy to use and look beautiful with either flowers or glass beads and stones. And remember that candle light gives everything a beautiful, romantic glow, so whatever style you choose for your centerpieces, be sure to spread a few tea lights on the tables to finish things off.

Let them eat cake!

When it comes to your wedding cake, there are so many beautiful, creative, charming ways you can choose to go. You can have a classic tiered cake, opt for a variety of good old-fashioned fruit pies, or perhaps go with a pyramid of pretty and delicious cupcakes. Whatever route you choose to take, ensure that your cake (or cake alternative) blends with your wedding décor to keep the look of the day cohesive, you can use your colour palette or the pattern of your place cards, invitations, etc. as a guideline. Another great way to personalize your cake, is to add a monogram to it!
If you are looking for ways to save on your wedding cake costs, do not choose a cake that is too intricate, simple cakes can still be gorgeous, but more cost efficient. Lastly, be sure to book your cake baker at least 6 months in advance and check his/her references.

Hint: Many venues charge a “cake cutting fee”, this is a fee that covers storage and serving of the cake, so be sure to inquire about this fee when you are researching your venue in order to factor it in to your budget.

A great photographer...

How do you save on your photo budget you ask? “Don’t” is the best answer possible. Find a reasonably priced photographer and go with it. This is the one thing that will showcase your wedding day for the rest of your life. If you need to generate some wiggle-room in your funds, it’s best to do it elsewhere.
From your engagement photo shoot to your last dance of the night, a great photographer knows just when to snap those shots that you will cherish forever. Most photographers offer a variety of styles and themes but it’s important to keep in mind that regardless of the style you select, always have a few traditional photos as well. Find a photographer you can get along with, someone professional yet easy-going with an impressive portfolio that speaks for itself. Let the memories begin!

Hiring a great DJ or band on your wedding day will be one of the best investments you’ll make. A DJ can also act as MC, cueing all the important moments and keeping the energy going throughout the evening. The average price for a quality DJ can range anywhere from $800-$1500. It is extremely important to ensure that the DJ you choose will suit your style and needs, be sure to meet them in person before you book and go over your specific song list. A great DJ should be able to satisfy a wide variety of musical tastes! And remember to check your DJ’s “back-up guarantee”, should your DJ come down with a case of the “Fridays” and become unavailable to provide service for your wedding, you need a written-in-stone promise that you will be taken care of, with another DJ of equal or better expertise.

A live band is also an amazing way to add charm to your wedding, especially if you are going with a particular theme (ie. Old Hollywood Glamour, 20’s Romance, etc.). The average price of a band is about $3000 but could go up to $15,000 or more (depending on their experience, how many pieces they are, etc.). If you are searching for a band who specifically performs at weddings, be sure to ask for a demo or go see them at a live bar / club (NEVER go to someone else’s wedding to see a band!).

Pretty Flowers!

Flowers are an essential part of your wedding day. Lush, beautiful, fragrant blooms will add warmth, charm and character to your day. From the coolness of hydrangeas to the sleek, modern look of calla lilies, the classic fragrant rose or the sweetness and romance of spring peonies (one of my favourites!), the options are endless, and you are sure to find the perfect match for your day.

Now, it would be great to grow your own flowers for your wedding, but let’s face it, unless your name rhymes with “Martha Stewart” chances are you don’t have the time or the inhuman gardening expertise to guarantee a flock of bouquets by the big day, so it is best to leave the growing to the experts. However, if you are working with a tight budget, you might want to enlist friends and family to help you with some of the arranging (depending on their flower-skills, of course).

Ideally, you should book your florist at least 3 months in advance, (the more time, the better). Make sure you do your research, and find someone you are comfortable with, ask to see samples of their work, and references. And remember, you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money to have this element in your special day. There are flowers out there to suit every taste and budget!

The stationary suite you choose for your wedding day is extremely important, as it sets the tone for your special day. Your invitations will indicate to your guests what to expect, whether a formal affair or a casual celebration, etc. There are many types of invitations to choose from, including a variety of eco-friendly choices that won’t leave a large footprint on the environment. As with choosing your wedding theme, your invitations should be a reflection of you as a couple and your celebration. If you are going for a summer soiree, perhaps you will look for light, fresh colours with beautiful stenciled flowers. If you're having a seaside or destination wedding, why not go with a fun, colourful stationary suite, such as the one below by 13 Creative. For the savvy and budget-conscious couple, there are many gorgeous DIY kits out there (Michaels offers some great ones), that will look just as classy and charming, if you have the time and are willing to do some of the assembly work.

Remember, invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Set requested RSVP time for 3 weeks prior to the wedding date, at the very LATEST (if some of your guests have not replied within this time period, give them a call to confirm).

If you are looking to save a little money on your stationary, remember that “Save-the-Date” cards are not a must for local weddings (unless you’re having your wedding on a holiday-weekend or a weekday) therefore, you could skip them if necessary. “Thank You” cards however, are a must and should ideally be sent out within 3 months after the wedding…and only if they gave you awesome gifts…just kidding!

Planning Your Happy Day!

So you’re engaged!! Congratulations!

It is now time to start planning your very special day!! There are some essential elements that will ensure your day is as memorable and beautiful as possible, such as a theme, the invitations, the DJ, amongst others. We will be highlighting the various elements in the next few days with some tips/suggestions that will help you ensure everything runs smoothly. Happy Planning!
First things first: Once you have set your wedding date and a realistic wedding budget, the first thing to book is your ceremony, followed by the venue. Many venues book a year or two in advance, so be sure to book as early as possible! Once you have booked these two important aspects, it is whatever else is most important to you (florist, DJ, etc.)

Today’s Topic: A THEME
If you decide to choose a certain theme for your wedding, it’s important to keep in mind that ultimately it should be an extension of your personalities. You never want to choose a theme that you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with as it can be a real gamble for your big day. For example, if you have never tried Chinese food, a Chinese themed wedding may not be the best idea just in case you realize half way through your speech that you are allergic to bok choy! Themes can be incredibly fun and they provide a real opportunity to be creative and really put your “stamp” on your wedding day. At the same time, you have to be prepared to follow through with any theme you choose 100% for a cohesive and authentic look and feel. A great tool in helping you pull your look together is an Inspiration Board (see DEva Wedding's Inspiration Boards). You can gather images of anything that suits your theme, colours, flowers, etc. and use them as a guideline for your day.

And remember, regardless of what your theme might be, the best way to ensure that you will stay on track is to choose something you truly enjoy!
